CHARACTER INFO.
NAME: Adrien Agreste
CANON: The Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir (aka Miraculous Ladybug)
CANON POINT: Post-season 3, Miraculous New York movie
AGE: 15
GENDER: Male

HISTORY: Adrien's personality, personal history and the expanded Ladybug universe.

APPEARANCE: Adrien himself, as well as Chat Noir and his various forms: Ice Chat; Aqua Chat; Astro Chat without and with wings. For later reference, Plagg!

ABILITIES: Adrien is an extremely dedicated student, and most things he does he's shown to be highly skilled at because of that. His lowest grade in school has been an A- in math, and he's noted to be particularly good at physics. He's a polyglot, speaking French natively, Chinese, Japanese, very likely English, and even understands morse code. He's extremely fit, as he currently involved in fencing and basketball clubs, is shown to know both karate and some other vaguely defined Kung Fu, and has generally notable above-average strength, speed and stamina beyond these hobbies. He's a highly experienced fashion model of nearly two years, with a thorough understanding of the ins and outs of a typical fashion show, as well as a keen eye for fashion; he can play piano, whistle, sing, and is quite skilled at video games, particularly fighting games.

He's shown to be intelligent, cunning and strategically minded, making something of a game out of seeing what loopholes he can exploit to get out from his father's strict rules, has been thorough in making sure no-one has been able to work out that he is Chat Noir (even if he doesn't know about someone's suspicions), and has successfully identified where an Akuma would be hidden in a villain's costume, or their exploitable weaknesses. He has quick wits and strong observational skills, and has successfully worked out twice that his friend Marinette is the hero Ladybug, while the reverse has not occured once - although, one time he was tricked by Marinette into dismissing the theory, and the second was negated by a time paradox. He tends to think in straight lines, acting quickly and sometimes impulsively on very straightforward and simple plans, and often needs to be held back from an action for which he hasn't foreseen immediate consequences. He's an extremely accomplished liar, but rarely uses this power for evil; instead he is simply hiding his true emotions and confident Chat Noir-esque personality behind a subdued, polite mask. He is confident and competent when dealing with adults, both business-wise and socially, but has been shown to struggle slightly when among his peers.

With the use of the Black Cat Miraculous - an indestructible ring powered by a divine creature called a Kwami - Adrien is able to magically transform into his superhero alias Chat Noir. He has superhuman strength, stamina and speed, can leap upwards of two stories, is nigh invulnerable and implied not to feel pain (unless he was injured before transforming, or takes a truly devastating blow in-suit). Because his Miraculous is cat-themed, he also has a greatly increased sense of balance, superior senses of smell and hearing, night-vision, and the ability to use his clawed gloves as actual claws which assist him in climbing vertical surfaces, or slashing through obstacles; he can actually move comfortably around in multiple ways an actual cat would (such as running or landing on all fours). He also purrs, and the ears and tail on his costume occasionally move to reflect his emotional state. He's an extremely competent hand-to-hand combatant, an excellent swimmer, and has shown to be able withstand some exposure to below freezing temperatures, such as the inside of a tunnel freezer. Despite having a big and audible bell on his zipper that jingles when played with, he can move extremely quietly when he wants to. It's also heavily implied that being Chat Noir offers Adrien worse than average luck, by the rate at which he gets hit by Akuma attacks, brainwashed, controlled, kidnapped, put in mortal peril, or otherwise turned into a temporary enemy. As well, being in his Chat Noir form offers zero protection against mind control of any description, and quite possibly offers him decreased resistance due to the aforementioned bad luck.

On a more magical front, Chat Noir has two primary assets: a staff, and the magical ability Cataclysm. The staff is a nigh-indestructible omni-purpose tool, normally holstered on his suit at the small of his back, and is his primary weapon; it's able to extend to lengths unknown (but upwards of four stories), and Adrien can use it proficiently as a javelin, bridge or vaulting pole, but typically it gets used as an average-sized staff or, less commonly, a sword. If he spins it at high speed, it can be used as an impenetrable shield. It also functions as a smartphone, map, tracker, binoculars (and when extended, periscope), x-ray machine, underwater breathing device, hammerspace, and can create wireless earbuds when required; it can also be split into two pieces, and still retains all of these properties, sans the lengthening. The logic behind all this is just "it's magic". However, it's fully possible to steal it and disarm him, because at the end of the day it's just a big stick, but it's not shown whether other people can use its myriad properties effectively, if at all.

The ability Cataclysm is that of pure destruction. When transformed, he is able to summon a mass of destructive energy in his right hand (specifically centered on the ring) which he can use to destroy or inflict malfunction on quite literally anything, with a perfect degree of control: he chooses how much is destroyed, and it's forced to effect an entire unit (such as a whole bus, or just the engine specifically, but no degree of difference in-between), but this can be things like a single book, an otherwise indestructible magical brooch, or the entire goddamn Eiffel Tower. This is even shown to work on humans - including himself. Most items, when Cataclysm'd, show visible signs of damage such as rust or sparking electricity, true to if they had been degraded by years of neglect instantaneously. After the attack is summoned, however, Chat Noir has only five minutes before his transformation ends and his true self is revealed, and he may only use it once per transformation.

It's also worth mentioning that the outfit is literally magic - while his belt and bell can be removed, the rest is form-fitted and unable to be pulled off no matter what force is applied. The suit does not come off unless he actively dismisses it, his ring comes off his finger, or he's used the Catacylsm attack and timed out. As well, the magic of the suit actively prevents people from realising that Chat Noir is Adrien, despite the superficial similarities, and unless someone actually sees him transform, or pieces together clues from photographs or other external, mundane forces (such as noticing Adrien and Chat Noir wear the same ring, or being objectively aware that Adrien and Chat Noir both possess green eyes and blonde hair) it's not actually possible to place that they are the same person.

On the Black Cat Miraculous: the divine creature inhabiting it is known as a Kwami; one specifically named Plagg, who is the physical embodiment of pure destruction. He is the source of Adrien's Cataclysm, but for the Kwami to use it himself is indescribably dangerous: a light tap has been shown to be enough to destroy the Eiffel Tower and a significant portion of the surrounding city, and him blowing on concrete (with the same effort you would snuff a candle) caused it to crack and burst for the length of a full block. If he was to use it in sincerity, it would be utterly catastrophic: he has been heavily implied to be the singular cause of Atlantis sinking, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the destruction of the dinosaurs.

Plagg himself is more or less an animal familiar, and all the powers Adrien displays can be assumed to be based off of Plagg; therefore, Plagg himself can also use Cataclysm, and has cat-like night vision. As a Kwami, he's able to levitate, fly, and phase through solid matter at will, so can't be caught by mundane means. He can't be seen by technology, so photographs of him can't exist, and he is able to pick up objects several times larger than himself, though the upper limit is shown to be something like ten to twenty pounds. He's fast, and shown to be able to outstrip humans easily, and doesn't need to breathe. He's fully aware of everything Adrien says and does while he's transformed into Chat Noir, since Plagg is physically present inside the ring; but after Chat Noir uses his Cataclysm, Plagg is exhausted since it draws on his own energy. When the transformation is released after drawing on Catacylsm, Plagg needs to recharge, either by resting or by eating; while he's proven he can use any food, he stubbornly maintains that he only eats the finest of cheeses, and has a marked preference for camembert cheese. (If the suit is dismissed at any other point, Plagg is shown to be fine and fully charged.)

Adrien also keeps a wheel of cheese slices on him, that are infused with magical potions (that both Plagg and Adrien do not know how to replicate) that can transform Plagg and modify Chat Noir's outfit to have additional powers. While there are seven colours, we have only been shown the functions of three of them: the green cheese-potion provides aquatic powers, which give Plagg a fishier form, and allows Chat Noir to breathe underwater and swim with a natural proficiency; the blue one provides ice powers, which grants Plagg and Chat Noir superior cold resistance, snowy aesthetics to their forms, ice skates, and a high degree of skill with which to use them; the purple potion provide 'space' powers, which manifests as a mask to allow for breathing at high altitudes (including in space) a jetpack with retractable bat-like wings, and armoured plating.

One final, very important note: the Black Cat Miraculous is not inherently tied to Adrien in any meaningful way, apart from it being in his possession. If someone else were to obtain the ring and Plagg, and be taught the correct transformation phrase, anyone can become Chat Noir (albeit with their own personalised costume and self-assigned name).

SUITABILITY: While Adrien is from a child's television show, and therefore there's a minimal amount of overtly horrific subject matter, Adrien has personally touched upon a number of more unsavoury subjects. Given the destructive nature of his powers, he harbours a constant fear of hurting an actual person with it - one that's realised in the Miraculous New York special, and it's shown to haunt him viciously enough to renounce the Cat Miraculous.

On a more mundane, and somehow far more sinister note, his relationship with his father is shown to be emotionally and psychologically abusive: in the nine months before canon, and throughout the entire show so far, Adrien's father has only doled out affection in the forms of minor lovebombings or emotional manipulation, and (unknowingly, but still) physical and psychological abuse at the hands of his supervillain ego Hawkmoth.

PERSONALITY.

Your character has a chance to undo a terrible mistake, but in doing so, there could be unintended consequences for everyone they know. Is it worth the risk? Or should the dead stay dead?
Adrian is actually somewhat used to terrible mistakes, given the sheer destructive nature of Cataclysm and how he's destroyed the wrong object with notable frequency (especially when he's without Ladybug to guide him with one of her plans): unfortunately, though, he's also used to the concept of Ladybug cleaning up after him with her Hard Reset powers. He has canonically killed someone, on-screen, and even though it was an accident that got fixed it was enough to make him completely renounce his title as Chat Noir in order to feel like it would never happen again.

If something to that severity was unable to be fixed by Ladybug, Adrien would definitely suffer some kind of meltdown, and would desperately desire to atone for it in some way. Since he's fifteen, as well, he wouldn't necessarily know when to stop or what qualifies as successful atonement, and if left to his own devices would go to extreme lengths in order to make things "right" in his mind. He wants to be a good person - he's a superhero, above all else - but he's a child with limited world experience, and while he has standards it would be easy to twist a situation into making him act against them.

If your character had the option to permanently lose the ability to feel certain negative emotions like fear or grief, or permanently forget certain memories, would they take it? What if they will never know that something has been taken from them? Does loss only matter if it's known what's missing?
Adrien is a sweet potato filled with disappointment. According to the series' creator, Adrien is borderline impossible to Akumatize and turn into a supervillain because "he's so used to disappointment"; this actually braces him somewhat against the more negative aspects of his life, even if he harbours a lot of resentment. If he was to lose his fear or grief, he would become irredeemably reckless and short-sighted, because fear defines how he interacts with the world: fear of disappointing his father (even if his father is quick to disappoint him in return), fear of being a bad friend or losing the ones he has, fear of being trapped inside for the rest of his life. Even his exaggerated overconfidence is a result of pushing past his fear - without that to temper him, he would be even more reckless to the point of actual harm to people.

Could your character ever forgive themselves for something morally wrong that they've done? No matter how much time has passed? No matter how much penitence has been done? Is being sorry enough to be a good person?
Adrien is extremely harsh on himself and holds himself to unfairly high standards, that he doesn't necessarily apply to other people. He's been shown to be willing to forgive other people for minor to moderate breaches of trust, but he very nearly doesn't forgive himself for worse offenses - it takes other people talking him out of his emotions to truly act upon a negative situation. And while he harbours guilt over a negative situation, it won't be until or unless the person he's slighted has forgiven him that he'll feel proper penitence has been paid. Sorry isn't enough on its own; forgiveness demands action, and trying to fix the damage that he's caused.

Your character has a secret they have been sworn to, but revealing this secret could save the lives of countless others. Is it worth breaking the promise to save others, or is betrayal never justifiable?
hahahahahahahhahaha THIS IS HIS ENTIRE LIFE. When Adrien has a secret, no matter how badly he wants to tell people, he will err on the side of caution and not reveal it. It may take some outside influence to make sure he stays on the path, because he's fifteen and as Chat Noir his inhibitions are largely out the window, but even when the lives of other people are at stake he's been shown to hold on to his convictions and work to find another way out of the situation in a way where there's minimal harm to innocent victims. While he's from a children's show, and therefore events largely work out in his favour, this wouldn't hold so strongly in a horror game and I'm curious to see what he does under this new form of pressure.

Has your character ever gotten joy out of hurting others, physically or mentally? If they have, does it scare them?
As himself, Adrien is not an actively malicious person. As Chat Noir, he's far less inhibited, and takes a great deal of delight in winding people up for his own amusement. While this mostly comes in the form of teasing, puns, and really bad jokes, it's largely just harmless banter and he doesn't make a game out of actually psychologically manipulating people. It's incredibly doubtful that he would enjoy it whatsoever if he was given the ability or means to do so, since he's been shown worrying about being a good person.

NOTES.

QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS:
Due to the inherently game-breaking nature of Plagg and Cataclysm, I'm happy to have some nerfs with them. If you guys want to place an upper limit on what Adrien and Plagg are able to destroy, such as square meterage or a hard no on certain things, I'm more than happy to work with that - it's worth noting that since Plagg is technically some kind of god or universal essence, his Cataclysm is exponentially more powerful than Adrien's, even when he tries to be as weak as possible with it (even a weak blow from Plagg, for instance, sends earthquakes rippling throughout all of Paris, and an intentionally weak blow of air from him destroys tarmac road for multiple city blocks) and actively goes out of his way to find excuses not to use it.

Alternatively (or as well), if Plagg needs to be limited further then maybe he can get seperate abilities, or groups thereof, back in different regains. For instance, the ring and Plagg could be entirely separate Regains, as well as getting back Plagg's own Kwami powers (such as his intangibility), Cataclysm itself, and his ability to transform Adrien into Chat Noir.

As well, since we don't know what four of the magic potions' functions actually are, I'd like to reserve the right to retroactively add their powers once they've been revealed in-show (if Adrien is still around by then) since technically he already has the powers in hand; it's me who doesn't know what they do. Otherwise, I can write up some powers for them, and just retcon them later on.
